Maximilian Mondzac is an avid composer, performer, and teacher of music. His versatility is perhaps his greatest strength. He plays classical and steel string guitar in equal parts, and has played a significant amount of electric guitar as well. On classical guitar, Max won first prize at the Sierra Nevada International Guitar Festival Youth Competition and the Northwest Guitar Festival Youth Competition. On steel string, Max won second place at the 25th anniversary Oyster Ridge Fingerstyle Guitar Competition and was a finalist in the 2019 Wilson Center Fingerstyle Guitar Competition. Although he is primarily a solo musician, Max has played in a plethora of ensembles. For three years, he was the guitarist for Seattle JazzED Advanced Ensemble 1, directed by the legendary Clarence Acox. He has also recorded and performed with Seattle rock bands such as Apollo 8 and Gnarmageddon. Additionally, Max has performed duos with superb musicians such as Kip Zimmerman, Callan Miller, and Indigo Fischer. As a student, Max has played in master classes with world-renowned musicians such as Paula Robison, Odair Assad, Benjamin Verdery, Emmanuele Buono, Jonathan Leathwood, and the Katona Twins. Max has taken his music to settings ranging from the street corners of downtown Seattle, to monstrous coliseums like Meany Hall, Town Hall Seattle, or Macky Auditorium. Max was the Sher Distinguished Scholar, the highest honor at the University Colorado Boulder’s College of Music and graduated with a BM in classical guitar.
